In Duisburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region, the Hy.Region.Rhein.Ruhr eV is an exchange and support platform for the realization of the transformation process into a climate-neutral region. In addition, an accelerated market launch of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and hydrogen-based industrial processes and thus the realization of a green hydrogen economy will be focused on. Within the association you can regularly exchange information with providers and users of hydrogen as well as with established research institutions and access a large number of information and formats through workshops, events and individual consultations. Based on existing projects and project outlines as nuclei and the close link between research and business, further projects for carbon-free and future-oriented energy technology can be set up together.

For more than 80 years now, STEAG GmbH has been synonymous with safe and efficient power generation, both within Germany and abroad. We draw on our extensive experience to support our customers in every aspect of the power generation process. We design, develop, implement, operate and market highly efficient energy solutions – from distributed generation facilities and those based on renewable sources to large-scale power plants. Besides custom power and heat generation solutions, we offer a wide range of energy services. In 2020 with a staff of around 6.258, we were able to achieve a turnover of 2,0 billion euros. As one of the largest generators of electricity in Germany, the STEAG Group has an installed capacity of approximately 7,121 megawatts (MW), of which around 5,000 MW are in Germany. The STEAG Group operates power plants in the ruhr area, Saarland, Saxony as well as over 400 local power facilities for generating power from renewables and distributed generation facilities for industrial applications and heat supply.

ZBT GmbH is a non-profit limited company (GmbH), the sole shareholder is the University of Duisburg-Essen. Dr Peter Beckhaus is CEO and Professor Dr Harry Hoster is Scientific Head. ZBT, as a member of the Johannes Rau Research Foundation, receives support from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.
